Lessons/The Shed

"Our lessons can be focused on a variety of areas, not just playing the saxophone:

Saxophone Technique, Music Theory, Audition Preparation, Composition, Practice Routines, Music Notation, Improvisation, Etudes, Beginner-Intermediate Flute, Sight Reading, Stage Etiquette, Transcribing, Ear Training, Focused Listening, Arranging, Song Learning...

...point being we'll find something to practice."

For typical lessons, the cost of 30 minute/1 hour sessions will be:

1 Lesson $35/$70

2 Lessons $70/$140

3 Lessons $105/$210

4 Lessons $135/$270

You save a few bucks when you buy the 4 lessons and it serves as incentive to practice more consistently in preparation for each next lesson.

Awan started teaching private lessons during college, both online and in person, and has continued to do so for students of all ages and levels. He will work with anyone, whether the student wants to be a casual player, classical virtuoso, jazz improviser, better reader, better arranger, or improve at anything else involving the saxophone/general music. Being a very passionate and dedicated musician himself, he makes it his mission to help his students improve consistently while demonstrating that there's always more that you don't know yet. He has spent almost 15 years studying the alto and tenor saxophone, as well as the flute. Studying classical etudes and pieces, overall technique, music theory, improvisation, bebop and hard-bop, sight-reading, notation and more, on top of constantly listening to records has given him plenty of knowledge to share with anyone and everyone.

After graduating from SUNY Purchase, Awan immediately sought out to make a name for himself as an educator as well as a performer. He was a Woodwind Teaching Artist for the ESYO CHIME program, the lesson teacher for almost all saxophonists at Christian Brothers Academy, takes part in jazz demonstrations and workshops, was a summer camp music teacher/assistant director, and continues giving private lessons. He's had students as young as 8 and as old as almost 50.

"Anyone can improve, given that the correct instruction and work ethic are present."
